Camping at Shelly’s Woods

Camping at Shelly’s Woods

My youngest son and I went on a father-son camping trip that we booked through Hipcamp. Hipcamp is similar to Vrbo, but for camping sites. The campsite was located about an hour and a half away from our house in a beautiful location with 2 acres of well-mowed grassy lawn next to a stunning creek. We had the entire area to ourselves, along with a few other fathers and their sons.

On Friday evening, we roasted hotdogs for dinner and then gathered around the campfire to roast marshmallows and play with flashlights and frisbees. The weather was perfect – not humid at all, with ideal sleeping temperatures at night.

The following morning, we enjoyed a delicious breakfast of hash browns, sausage, and eggs before spending more time around the fire. We ventured into the creek to hunt for crayfish and were successful in catching some of the largest ones I have ever seen – about 10 in total. Afterward, we played yard games like cornhole, Molkky, and frisbee before packing up and heading home by dinner time.

Overall, it was a fantastic experience, and I highly recommend Shelly’s Woods to anyone looking to enjoy nature and have a private space to themselves. The only downside is the proximity of the road, but it’s not a major issue as the trees block the view of the cars passing by. Just something to be aware of.
